PE and Sport Premium
What is PE and Sport Premium?
The PE and Sport Premium is additional funding provided by the government to help primary schools improve the physical health and wellbeing of their pupils. Each school receives a core amount of £16,000, plus £10 per pupil, to support the development of high-quality physical education, promote active lifestyles, and increase access to a wide range of sporting opportunities.
This funding is ring-fenced, meaning it must be used exclusively for PE, sport, and physical activity-related initiatives. The aim is to create sustainable improvements in the quality of PE and sport provision, ensuring that all children, regardless of background or ability, have the opportunity to be active, healthy, and engaged.
Schools use the funding to:
- Enhance the quality of PE lessons through staff training and resources.
- Provide inclusive and engaging physical activities for all pupils.
- Offer after-school clubs and competitive sports to broaden participation.
- Embed physical activity into the school day and culture.
- Support pupils’ physical and mental wellbeing through active experiences.
The ultimate goal is to inspire children to lead active and healthy lives, both now and in the future.
