Attendance
Attendance
At St Dennis Primary Academy, we value the importance of regular attendance at school and we strive to have the highest attendance possible. High attendance (97%+) is essential to ensure uninterrupted progress and to enable children to fully develop their learning potential.
Good attendance is important because:
- Statistics show a direct link between under-achievement and absence below 95%.
- Regular attenders make better progress, both socially and academically.
- Regular attenders find school routines, schoolwork and friendships easier to cope with.
- Regular attenders enjoy learning more.
- Regular attenders are more successful in transferring between primary school, secondary school and beyond.
- Attending school regularly safeguards the welfare of children whilst they are not in the care of their parents or carers.
Punctuality
Did you know that children who arrive a few minutes late at the start of the day can feel anxious and do not make a positive start to their learning?
Key phonics and reading skills are taught at 9 o’clock every day, so regularly being late to school can have a significant impact on the amount of key learning time lost over the year.
This tables shows how much key learning time is lost, if regularly late.
