At St Dennis Primary Academy, we believe the benefits of after school activities for children are wide and varied. Scientific research proves that encouraging children to engage in activities after school could aid their development. Children who participate in extracurricular activities on a regular basis develop their individual personalities, cut down on emotional stress, and enhance their social and academic skills.
“Everyone matters, everyone succeeds, every moment counts”
We believe that clubs:
Boost Academic Performance
Discovering that they have a talent for something can give children a new source of confidence or passion that translates into their behaviour at school. Extracurricular activities provide children with the facilities and time to pursue interests that they may not be able to engage with at home.
Improve Life and Social Skills
Regardless of whether they are establishing new relationships, or building upon existing friendships, after school activities provide an ideal environment in which to nurture social skills and confidence. Numerous extracurricular activities work to teach children the value of working as a team to achieve a mutual goal — a skill that will benefit them in their future occupation.
Create Safer, Happier Children
After school activities offer a positive environment in which children can grow and thrive when parents are working or unable to make it home straight after school. A number of our after school activities promote emotional well-being by allowing children to work off excess energy, relax their minds, and overcome potential stresses associated with school life.
Promote Healthy Hobbies
Children with a regular hobby are likely to spend less static time glued to a smartphone or screen. Not only does the time spent within a club encourage your child to remain active and away from the sofa, but the interests that they develop during those clubs will prompt them to spend more time practicing skills and pursuing their passions.
Encourage a Brighter Future
The skills and habits children learn during his or her school years help to shape the kind of future they will lead as an adult. As a result, after school activities that promote everything from healthy-living habits, to leadership skills, good time-management, and better social or academic performance have plenty of advantages to offer.
Our school data shows that over 75% of our pupils are actively engaged in after school clubs.
At St Dennis Primary Academy we are pleased to offer a wide range of after school clubs every term for all ages. We send an explanatory leaflet at the start of each term, detailing the range of activities on offer for that term.
Parents and carersfivecomplete a slip to sign their children up to a club for the term and the school text to confirm their place. We endeavour to ensure every child has a place in the clubs of their choice, but where a club is popular and to ensure safety, we may split the group into two clubs of 5 weeks to ensure every child has the opportunity to attend.
Clubs start at 15.25 and finish 16.15 (unless otherwise stated) and are led by school staff, parent volunteers or approved leaders. We welcome suggestions for any future clubs, so please let the office know if you have a suggestion.
