Key Worker

In order to help children to settle into Nursery, each child will be given a key worker.  Parents and carers and the key worker share information about the child on a daily basis; talking about home and Nursery.

Mrs Edmunds leads the Nursery and ensures that all children are happy within the setting and experiencing a variety of learning opportunities, as well as making the next steps in their learning.

Parents and carers are always welcome to speak to Mrs Edmunds or their child’s key worker, when they come into nursery each day.  Alternatively parents are welcome to make an appointment to talk to Mrs Edmunds after school.

Physical Development

We plan for Physical Development to happen daily in the outdoor area or the hall, depending on the weather, and as a focused session through Leap into Life. We go to the school hall in small groups throughout the week for PE during the morning.  Children do not need a PE kit as they remove shoes, socks and jumpers.

Learning Journeys

We will create individual online Learning Journeys for each child using Tapestry.  These are a lovely way of capturing each child’s individual learning experiences as they progress through nursery.  We ask parents to contribute to these by uploading photos and information from home.  We will share these regularly to ensure progress is being made and next steps in learning are taking place.

Snack

  • Children will be offered milk or water to drink and a piece of fruit at snack times.
  • Fresh drinking water is also available throughout the day, so as children may have a drink whenever they need one.

The Outdoor Area

We consider the outdoor area as an extension of the classroom and the learning that takes place in the outdoor environment is invaluable. We use the garden daily, except in extremes of weather, so please make sure your child wears sensible shoes for comfort and safety. It is often muddy in our garden, so we ask children to bring wellies (if they have them).  We have waterproof trousers and coats for the children to wear.

Book Share in the Nursery

Children choose from a selection of books, which they can then take home to share.  The focus is on listening to stories and enjoying books.  We aim for children to like books and have favourites. We will change books on a weekly basis. Parents are welcome to come in and change books daily if they wish.
